Geraldine O'Neill
Luan an tSléibhe (Judgement Day)
Date:
4th October - 22nd November
A major new body of work by well-known Irish artist Geraldine O'Neill. O'Neill is an artist whose practice is defined by a commitment to figurative and representational painting, a genre to which she brings a fresh and innovative approach. Song birds feature strongly in this series, each image provoking memory and familiarity, childhood, innocence, beauty and loss. O'Neill's technique demonstrates her thorough knowledge of the art historical tradition of still life to which she adds a very modern twist and intelligent use of concept and allegory. Combining technical brilliance and a personal authenticity this exhibition will have a wide appeal.

Orla Whelan
At the Heart of Chance
Date:
28th November - 17th January
A body of new paintings, which the artist began making during her period as Artist in Residence at Draíocht, January to June 2008. Through the development of series of related paintings Whelan's practice functions as an intuitive investigation into themes of memory, perception and the gap between experience and representation. The naked body and moments of physical intimacy feature prominently in her new work, which investigates physical and sensory subjectivity.
